Vladimir Nabokov. Correspondence with Mikhail Karpovich. 1933-1959. Ed. by Andrey Babikov. Moscow: Litfakt, 2018. Series "Biblioteka Litnasledstva".
The book was prepared by the constant contributor to the Literary fact journal – Andrey Babikov.
Abstract:
Vladimir Nabokov’s correspondence (1899-1977) with Mikhail Karpovich (1988-1959), which continued more than a quarter of a century, details the little-studied initial stage of Nabokov's literary and academic career in America after he left Europe in May 1940.
Prefaced with a thorough foreword and accompanied by a broad commentary correspondence of the largest émigré writer with one of the most influential organizers of Russian cultural life in the US, Harvard University professor, editor of the Novy Zhurnal and Russkoe Obozrenie, is supplemented by a number of archival documents from the circle of Russian and American colleagues and friends of both correspondents: Nabokov's letters to M. Aldanov and his responses, letters from M. Rostovtsev, A. Kaun, R. Grinberg, M. Chekhov, E. Somov and other outstanding scientists and culture figures. The main body of letters together with the additional materials creates a broad image of the life of Russian America in the 1940-1950s.
The book is supplied with a bibliography of the main publications of Nabokov’s correspondence in Russian and in English.
This is the first book of our new publishing house Litfakt. And it is very flattering that it immediately appeared in January’s Top-10 selected by the store of intellectual literature Falanster (http://falanster.su/top/).
