Abstract:

Baroness E. von Overbeck was an outstanding figure in the cultural life of Saint Petersburg at the turn of the 19th century though her early years are only evidenced by Z.N. Gippius. After 1903 she falls altogether out of sight both of her Russian contemporaries and later researchers. The present article reconstructs the image of the Baroness – a woman of a remarkable individuality – on the basis of archived documents and foreign sources.
