Abstract:

The article is devoted to the poetics of G.R. Derzhavin’s Anacreontic Songs (1804), the only book of poems published during his lifetime that was composed according to the generic and thematic principle. Anacreontic Songs is analyzed against the background of the Eighteenth century Russian Anacreontic tradition with its two varieties of the odic canon — Lomonosov’s and Sumarokov’s odes that defined the metrics of the Russian Anacreontic odes. A special emphasis is laid on the enrichment of Derzhavin’s metrics and topics through Anacreontic poetry.
